Old Town Hall Tower and Astronomical Clock in Prague: Tickets and Best Time
Updated October 13, 2026 · 4 min read
Buy the Old Town Hall Tower Entry Ticket for €18 if you want the view and the priority counter. The provider is Prague City Tourism, the city’s own operator, and the ticket has 4.5 stars from 7,730 reviews. It is valid for one day and lets you use the priority counter. The Astronomical Clock itself is free to watch from the square; the ticket is for the view from the tower. If you can be there when the tower opens, the counter is cheaper (see below).
What you are paying for
The Old Town Hall tower is the oldest town hall tower in the Czech Republic, and the viewing gallery looks over Old Town Square and across to the Castle. The booking page lists the entrance fee to the tower and to the historical halls and underground among the inclusions, and it recommends using the “priority” counter and going straight to the third floor for the tower.
Prague City Tourism publishes its own prices on its website: 350 CZK for an adult at the counter, 230 CZK for children aged 6 to 15, seniors over 65 and disability card holders, and 750 CZK for a family ticket for two adults and up to four children. Its online skip-the-line ticket costs 450 CZK for an adult, which is about the €18 of the GetYourGuide ticket, and the city says that ticket entitles you to enter the tower only. So the €18 pays for convenience, not for a different entry: GetYourGuide voucher holders are among the groups the city lists for the priority counter.
The city’s page also lists an Early Bird discount of 50% off the admission fee in the first hour after opening, every day except 25 December and 1 January, and not on days when the tower opens late for ceremonial reasons. It describes this as a discount on the admission fee; it does not say whether a voucher bought online qualifies, so ask at the counter.
What costs extra on the spot
The same page lists two add-ons that the entry ticket does not cover:
- The tower lift is 100 CZK for adults, children aged 6 to 15 and youth up to 26, and 50 CZK for seniors. Children under five go free. The stairs are the free option.
- The guided tour of the historical interiors costs 150 CZK (circuit A: the Gothic chapel, the state rooms and the underground) or 100 CZK (circuit B: the Romanesque-Gothic underground). These run only at announced times and are paid at the counter on the day, not online.
So read the booking page’s mention of “historical halls and underground” carefully. The city’s own page says the guided interiors are an add-on paid at the counter. If you want the interiors, ask at the priority counter what your voucher covers before you queue for the tower.
The Astronomical Clock: when it performs
The twelve apostles appear in the two windows above the dials every hour. Prague City Tourism gives the span as every hour between 8 am and 11 pm; the booking page says 9 am to 11 pm. Do not plan around the first show of the day. The clock dates from 1410 and shows four different times, including Central European time and Babylonian time. People gather on the square before each show, so arrive a few minutes early if you want a place near the front.
When to go up the tower
The tower is open every day: 10 am to 7 pm from January to March and 9 am to 8 pm from April to December. There are special hours at Christmas and New Year, so check the city’s site if you travel then.
The booking page lists seeing the clock from above as one of the highlights, so going up shortly before the hour lets you watch the apostles from the tower. Going in the first hour after opening is also the cheapest way in, if the Early Bird discount applies.
Practical details
Visitors under 15 may enter only with an adult aged 18 or over. Strollers, luggage, food and drinks, selfie sticks, tripods and professional cameras are not allowed in, according to the booking page. The city says access to the tower is barrier-free for wheelchair users, with a lift from the ground floor to the third floor and a separate lift in the tower, and that the historical interiors are not. Confirm the details with the operator if you rely on step-free access.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the visit applies.
Combine it with
The medieval underground and dungeon tour starts a few steps from the square, and the Klementinum is a short walk away and offers a second tower view. For more tickets and sights see things to do in Prague.
